Our Senior Speed Team is meant for competitive athletes (ages 13+) who are not beginners in track. We strive to create a community of like-minded athletes who will be able to support and challenge each other through their track seasons at their respective high school programs.

South Bay Speed Team is first and foremost a community. Our club consists of like-minded athletes who are looking to challenge themselves, set and achieve goals, improve mental skills, and meet new friends and training partners along the way. Through this, our athletes reach new heights beyond anything they thought possible. SBST training sessions are year-round and broken into three different “seasons” that each build into the next, which is why we recommend attending our program year-round.

Summer Season

We begin our summer with some end of season competitions, usually at Nike Outdoor Nationals in Eugene, Oregon. Following that is where we lay our foundations for the next year. We spend our sessions working on strength and conditioning, developing good habits, meeting and working out with current and former collegiate athletes, and building up our community. We also offer an optional weight lifting program separate from our main training sessions, but meant to be done along side our running training. The summer running program is essential preparation for the following two blocks of training.

June, July, August, and September

Fall/Winter Season

This is when we start to sprinkle in more event specific training to our program as well as set our season goals. We are primarily preparing for our winter “indoor” competition that takes place in December and January. These track meets are incredibly important for the development of our athletes as it’s the only time of the year that we as SBST coaches get to spend ALL of our time at track meets with our club athletes. We also get the opportunity to put into practice all of the new things we have been working on at our training sessions, taking them for a test ride before the real big meets begin in the Spring.

October, November, December, and January

Spring Season

During the spring, our training sessions turn into working only on specific event related skills as well as mental preparation for competitions. Our athletes will compete with their high school teams and our coaching staff will attend as many events as we can (we all coach at high schools too!). We give feedback after competitions, discuss what needs to be worked on, and then execute it in practice to get prepared for the next competition. The end of Spring is our major competition season including meets like the Arcadia Invitational, Mt. Sac Relays, and California CIF competition. At the end of Spring, our goal is always to “Win and Advance”!

  • While we expect all available athletes to compete, participation in track meets is entirely optional. We understand that school, family commitments, and other other extracurriculars may take priority. However, athletes enrolled in Speed Team are expected to have a competitive mindset and be eager to compete.

  • Our training program is designed to supplement your athlete’s school program. It is crucial that the athlete does not skip any workouts assigned by their respective school programs. Athletes should never have to miss a school workout because of what they are doing at Speed Team.

    • In addition to supplementing school track programs, Senior Speed Team is designed to support athletes from a variety of sports backgrounds, making it a great option for athletes looking to improve their running and jumping skills.
